What is Latex For Floors?

Latex for floors is a material that is commonly used to help smooth floor surfaces, this is usually done before laying any kind of floor covering. It is a liquid screed mix that can be poured and trowelled over the surface of the floor to help create an even and flat finish.

It is available in a wide range of different sizes, and can be used on a variety of surfaces; including concrete, HardieBacker floors, and also on correctly prepared wooden floor surfaces. It can be used for a wide range of projects, from small DIY home improvement projects, to large industrial and commercial areas that require high durability and a smooth surface.

Latex for Floors: A Modern Solution for Interior Design

A good quality levelling compound will be formulated from a controlled blend of special sands, cements and synthetic polymers. This will give the compound a self-levelling and smoothing capability and will make it ready for use with floor coverings such as vinyl, carpet, or ceramic tile.

It will normally be laid to a thickness of between 3-10mm, but can be increased with the addition of bulking aggregates (normally kiln dried sand) as per the manufacturer’s guidelines. Once the latex self-levelling has been applied and trowelled, it can be overcoated with a suitable floor coating; this is usually a hard wearing, solvent free product that will protect the smooth latex surface for a long time to come. As with any project of this type, careful planning and preparation is key to ensuring a successful flooring installation.
